GGG Visit at Kathy's site - August 16, 2013

The site of the back- backyard rearrangement (septic tank replacement last fall)!

 

 

 Ligularia grown from seed three or so years ago.  This is the first blossom EVER!

 

And then along comes Joan!  Yea!

 

 She's the veritable Peddler Opening Her Pack (trunk)

 

Dried allium (spray paint it and place back in ground!) and dried money plant!

 

 

TOAD HOUSES

Enter the Challenge-of-the-Day!  Not enough research on the Outdoor Adhesive (my fault)...  but we used 4" flimsy nursery pots with terra cotta saucers glued to the bottom.  Turn upside down after glue sets.  Cut out door for toad entrance.  Glue an assortment of items on the saucer and sides... allow to dry.

 

 Tah Dah!  This might be the winner!!  Sphagnum Moss.... glued everywhere! 

 

 The toad might have to search for the entrance, but he'd be well hidden and secluded!!

Getting Together at Carolyn's - August 6, 2013

First we checked out part of a fun collection!

 

 It wasn't long until we were all together and began our "circle tour!"

Moneywort?

 

 We were told that moneywort can also be used as an oxygenator in a pond.

 

Carolyn's husband is definitely one of two unofficial members of our

GGG Garden club!

 

What a beautiful day!  We enjoyed some Great Conversation, Gardening, and Comradery!

I also dead-headed almost everything today... did not get to the yarrow. 

 I will also cut back the iris a bit, next time.  :-)

GGG Visits Nancy!

My, it was a hot day yesterday!  But we intrepid GGG members (those of us that could be there) visited Nancy anyway!

Just take a peek at some of the things we saw... even though we've been without rain for three weeks!!

First on the agenda was a peek at her fairy garden... created in an old metal fire pit!

 

Next, the Hosta Bed!

At the end of the Hosta Bed sits a nice bench

painted black and yellow, for University of Iowa Hawkeyes.

Check out the matching petunias!

JCHC Healing Garden - May 2013

In April, Karin H and dead-headed and performed a little weeding.  We noticed the garden was in need of a little more mulch.

Nancy B and I visited the garden May 7th.  We weeded, added a couple of bags of mulch and a bird bath!
Looking good!  We need to mark the tulips and daffodils, so we can add more in the Fall.

Yes, there's a note in the mailbox!  YOU can add one, when you visit.

 The lilac bush is budded, as is the flowering crab.

We look forwarded to adding a couple of new clematis next to the beautiful trellis.

Won't it be fun to have a birdbath?

(I admit, I couldn't pass by the orange lilies... had to add a couple!)

Everything has begun growing so nicely!  We can anticipate good things to come.  We can also soon anticipate the addition of a nice-sized concrete bench.

We hope this garden truly provides inspiration and lives up to its name:  JCHC Healing Garden.
